National Debt Limit Raised; Why aren't Americans angry?

On Thursday, March 16, 2006, the United States Senate voted to increase the national debt limit to $9 trillion. Hello? Is anyone listening? Am I in the Twilight Zone? If the debt limit is raised to $ 9,000,000,000,000, what is the current debt? As of 03/16/2006, the United States debt was $8,271,005,203,336.67. How long can this go on? Can you say “bring our military home”? This is total fiscal mismanagement and the citizens of the United States are far too quiet about it. It goes without saying that the national budget is more complicated than my personal finances but the basic concept is the same. There is a danger to spending more than you earn…live within your means…you know the rest. I read that the debt ceiling was raised to prevent U.S. treasury notes from bouncing. Arrrrgh! What? The $9 trillion limit equates to $30,000 for every United States citizen. This is way too dangerous, folks. Where is the money going? Someone has some ‘splaining to do. It’s time that we held our elected officials accountable for this. Just as politicians' children tend not to serve in the military, the politicians will find a way out of paying for the national debt. I’m going to get more educated on the federal budgeting process and start asking questions of folks whose salaries and perks I finance. I’m mad as hell but maybe it’s just me.
